Whether it’s a single department preparing for next semester or an entire university envisioning the next 10 years, different types of planning happen across the institution.

While each type of planning might have different processes, horizons, and outcomes, they are all empowered by an integrated planning framework.

SCUP’s Focus Areas

In order to better serve higher education, SCUP is currently focusing on how integrated planning can be applied to these planning types:

Academic Planning

Academic planning (also known as educational master planning) outlines a college or university’s overall academic goals and how those goals will be met.

Campus Planning

Campus planning outlines the long-term direction of a college or university’s physical and built environment.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Planning

With diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) planning, colleges and universities ensure that each member of their community is empowered to achieve their full potential in an environment and culture that values differences.

Institutional Effectiveness Planning

Institutional effectiveness (IE) planning organizes evaluation, assessment, and improvement initiatives in the college or university.

Resource Planning

Resource planning in higher education aligns budget, time, people, space, and technology to the university or college strategic plan.

Strategic Planning

The college or university strategic plan provides guidance for decisions, long-term and day-to-day, that carry out the mission, vision, and values.
